Applications similar to Freevo

This is an incomplete list of other applications that are similar in scope to Freevo.

  • Dave/Dina project has similar goals. Still alpha too.
  • Ding. Also similar goals. Haven't tried it yet.
  • HomeDVR. Also similar goals. No source available yet, but screenshots look nice.
  • Showshifter. Commercial product for Windows. Very similar, screenshots look pretty good.
  • MythTV. Also similar goals, mostly geared towards timeshifting. Haven't tried it yet.
  • eboxy. Mostly the skin/control stuff. Haven't tried it yet. Is a nice site in general for Linux PVR info.
  • TVtonic. Commercial Windows app that integrates into the Web browser. There's a nice Flash tour of the app.
  • MMboX. Linux C/SDL app similar to Freevo. Haven't tried it yet, nice screenshots.
  • Movix. A mini distro for playing divx on any pc, it would be interesting to use it for a standalone freevo distro for embedded mediabox (movix2 is less than 20 mb, with x11 and mplayer already)
  • myHTPC. A highly customizable, menu driven front end for windows that allows you, among other things, to launch external programs, browse pictures and large collections of almost any type of media stored on your computer.
